    Default assistants

i am thinking about working with my best friend who has just had a baby. i have a few questions as not sure how to go about it...

Do i have to employ her or could she work in my house but still be self employed and pay me a certain amount/percentage of her earnings for being in my house?

i already have employers liability as my husband is my assistant, just to help out etc now and again. would i need anything else? i am sure i saw something about planning permission to increase numbers???

would she need to register herself straight away or could she just be my assistant? We met at college and both have NNEB.

anything else i need to consider?

    Thanks in advance!

It appears to be under co-minders and assistants, which I assume is relevant?

It is entirely up to you how you plan it out, you could employ her as an assistant? Have her as an assistant but she could be self employed then would look after her own tax and NI or you could work as co-minders, then you can work out if she pays you a % for working in your space where you are playing the bills etc

I don't think there are any strict rules, just work out what works for you

We employed our assistant as we felt she would be more loyal to us if we covered holiday pay and had proper contract etc as if she was self employed, she could choose when to work or not and that may not suit you

    probably not much help, sorry

Yes thats right, you can either when it comes to the pay.

You need to contact ofsted and obtain an application form for assistants, crb check etc
