    Default Swimming raisin 'fish'

Such fun to watch!! It kept me amused today.....

Fill a bottle/jar/glass mostly full with water. Put a couple of teaspoons of white wine vinegar in and a couple of teaspoons of bicarb of ***. then pop some raisins in.

The bubbles created by the vinegar/soda attach temselves to the raisins, which then float up to the surface of the water, then sink down again. it's quite lively for 1/2 hour then slows down but 4 hours later we still had the odd swimming raisin. i told the kids (older ones) they were my pet raisins but you can decorate the jar like an aquarium on the outside to ake it like a fish tank.

If it doesn't work first time add more of the bicarb and vinegar - I only did this in a small glass......

Oh sounds good - have no white wine vinegar though, so a trip to the shops will be in order.

    Thanks for sharing

Definately worth doing. I can't think of any other reason why it has to specifically be white wine vinegar. hold on a tick......

    I've just found the instructions......

    Diving Fish
    Submitted by Tina
Take a clear two-liter bottle and draw sea shapes (seaweed, waves, etc) on the outside of it with a permanent marker. Fill the bottle mostly full with water. Next add about a 1/4-cup of white vinegar and 1 Teaspoon of baking soda to the bottle. Drop a small handful of raisins into the bottle. And then watch. The raisins will collect bubbles all around them from the vinegar and baking soda chemical reaction this will cause them to float to the top. Once the reaction calms back down they will sink back down and then form more bubbles (causing them to rise again!) This will repeat for up to a half-hour. This is so fun! My kids just loved it.
